Cognitive processing therapy is a type of cognitive behavioural therapy that focuses on redefining thoughts and beliefs surrounding a traumatic experience. Often the core emotions experienced through trauma include shame, fear, anger and anxiety.
Through counselling, you learn to understand how you have processed a traumatic experience and how it has changed your thinking, teaching you new ways to handle distressing thoughts and feelings brought up by trauma.

With this information, you’ll experience the formal processing of your trauma with your therapist using questioning techniques in a one-on-one setting. Here you’ll understand the impact your trauma has had on your life.
Finally, learning how to identify the unhelpful thought processes and emotions around your trauma is a big part of ‘redefining’ how it impacts your belief systems. With your therapist, you will be able to reduce feelings of guilt, shame and anxiety with the view to improve your quality of life and your relationship with your trauma.
